December 21, 1985 to Nigerian parents. Seyi Shay embraced music at a very early age of 6 and by the time she got into secondary school, she was a member of the school choir. A graduate of University of East London, Seyi also earlier studied music at a local UK college. Seyi Shay began her professional career when she became the lead singer of the UK girl group, From Above. The group was managed by Beyonce’s father, Matthew Knowles and were signed to Sony/Colombia Records. Seyi Shay returned to Nigeria after she was convinced by Sound Sultan who met her in London. She was initially signed unto Flytime Music where she was for two years. Seyi Shay dropped her debut album, ‘Seyi or Shay’ in November, and it has continued to make positive waves.
